With a strong belief in the power of the smile, Gustav Ehrenreichcreated his happy Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The goal was tocreate a figure that would be a perpetual reminder to stay positive andoptimistic. Because while the 1960s are often referred to as 'The Happy60s,' it was a decade characterized by turmoil. So Ehrenreich's designwas a welcome spreader of joy in a turbulent time.
